I attended Salfords School briefly in the Spring of 1952 around the time that King George VI died. I vividly remember being called inside and told and we all sang the national anthem - quite shocking for a five-year-old. I was in lodgings with my father in a house in West Avenue, Salfords. My father Karl Brockelsby has started work at Mullard Research Laboratories in Cross Oak Lane in the January of that year.
